Sebenarnya ada 3 cara memotong kuku oleh 3 orang ulamak yang hebat. Iaitu Imam Nawawi, Imam Ghazali, dan Imam Ahmad. Ramai yang bertanya apakah cara memotong kuku mengikut sunnah..? Sunnah memotong kuku adalah memotong kuku itu sendiri adalah sunnah, dan memotongnya dimulai dengan yang kanan, dikiaskan kepada sunnah Nabi SAW yang memulakan sesuatu perbuatan dimulai dengan kanan.
Menurut pendapat Imam Nawawi:
Mulakan dengan tangan kanan, kemudian dahulukan dengan memotong kuku jari telunjuk - jari tengah - jari manis - jari kelingking, kemudian memotong kuku ibu jari; habis potong kesemua kuku di tangan kanan.
Kemudian potonglah kuku tangan kiri, dimulakan dengan jari kelingking - jari manis - jari tengah - jari telunjuk - seterusnya ibu jari tangan kiri - complete.
Menurut pendapat Imam Ghazali:
Mulakan dengan tangan kanan.
Mulakan dengan memotong kuku jari telunjuk - jari tengah - jari manis - jari kelingking. Kemudian terus berpindah ke tangan kiri, mulakan dengan jari kelingking - jari manis - jari tengah - jari telunjuk - ibu jari tangan kiri - kemudian balik semula ke tangan kanan dan potong kuku ibu jari kanan.
Pendapat Imam Ahmad pula (tiada dalam gambar) agak rumit sedikit untuk diikuti tapi sangat mujarab kerana sabit kepada satu hadith Nabi SAW yang bermaksud: "Sesiapa yg memotong kukunya secara 'mukholifan' tidak akan diserang penyakit mata." (Boleh rujuk dalam kitab Kitab Al-Mughni)
'Mukholifan' bermakna tertib-tertib seperti yang ditunjukkan..
Menurut Imam Ahmad:
Kaedah خوابس untuk jari tangan kanan ertinya: Mulakan dengan jari kelingking, tengah, ibu jari, manis dan telunjuk.
Kaedah أوخسب untuk jari tangan kiri ertinya: Mulakan dengan ibu jari, tengah, kelingking, telunjuk dan akhir sekali jari manis. Maknanya anda selang-selikannya juga.
Ini bermakna kaedah ini perlu dilakukan secara berselang-seli. Bacalah dua tiga kali supaya faham sambil amalkan.
